Hey Sue...I've taught kids with Neurofibromitosis. It's a grueling and very frustrating disease. I help with fundraisers for the disease about once a year. I'm so sorry that so many members of your family had to endure this.

Hi Audra. My husbands sister had a genetic disease called neurofibromatosis(thats a big word huh?]It basically causes tumors to grow on the nerves including brain tumors. She passed it on to her two children. The tumors may be cancerous or not.Thiers were not cancerous but located on inoperable places in the brain.Radiation was tried but his sister died less than a year after diagnosis.Because his sister had this condition,my husband and all his other other brothers and sisters are now at a HUGE risk of developing tumors including gliomas hence my husbands oligodendroglioma diagnosis. So you can see that sometimes brain tumors do run in families even tho most doctors consider it be rare.Bye for now,Sue

Hi Audra I am sorry about the audition I figure it is thier loss! The yoga class will just take a little time but I am sure it will work out in the end.I was thinking about things the other day and I realized that you do not know my whole history. Early in my life with my husband, his sister died of a brain tumor at the age of 38 and thru the years 2 of her 3 children also died of brain tumors so having watched 3 family members die of brain tumors gives me a very good idea of what my husband will go thu if things do not work out and that just freaks me out, which explains why I left my husband because it was almost too much to bear, but I needed to be stronger and so iWILL be because I have to be. Anyway best wishes as always, Sue

Hi Sue. Wow. That really does put a different spin on things. What type of tumor did your sister-n-law and her children have? I'm sure you can understand my interest...

Hi, Audra,There was a story on Crazy sexy cancer on the public radio station I listen to.(WAMC in ALBANY)And they interviewed the woman who made it.It was interesting, and she was happy and upbeat about it but I must admit I have never heard of cancer being"sexy"Maybe I should try to watch it before I have an opinion on it ,anyway Hope you all had a nice Labor Day weekend! It just aired the other night for the first time so I'm assuming it'll be released on DVD soon. She calls it sexy because she's sexy and very crazy and it's all explained in the end how cancer is that too... it's a definite must-see. Funny and sad and cooky and very interesting.

Did anyone watch the documentary on the Learning Channel last night? It was called Crazy, Sexy, Cancer. It was by Kris Carr and it was outstanding. She's young and very dramatic and filmed the most real film of the disease. You all have to see it if you didn't see it last night.
Audra writes:
I didn't see it but it sounds interesting. Sexy??? I've never heard cancer called *that* before... lol... I wonder if Netflix has it.

Hi Audra,I have returned home to my husband. I am ashamed of myself for losing it, but it has been almost 7 years of this hanging over our heads VERY STESSFUL to say the least, not to mention that he had an mri on august 16th and it has grown during the last 6 months much faster than it has ever done in the past.He is the love of my life, father of our two children, grandfather of our four grandchildren and I WILL stand by him,As he needs me now more than ever,I do not know WHAT I WAS THINKING!Thanks for listening Take care and best wishes, sue

Hi Sue. I'm so glad to hear that!!! Even my husband was worried about you two and if you knew him you'd know how strange that was. Yes, he needs you now more than ever. I can only imagine...

My children just took it in stride. They know I have to take medicine for my tumor but other than that everything else we do is the same stuff we used to do.

I too, worry about every little tic and headache. I have never had a seizure so would have no idea about what to expect.
But then, I'm not scared to fly now like I was before. I guess when you have faced to idea of your own mortality head-on, the idea of dying doesn't scare you so much.

By the way, I was born in Salisbury and grew up in Snow Hill until I was 5. We visit regularly now as my great aunt has a farm in Girdletree and my brother is a fireman in Ocean City.
Audra writes:
My son needed a lot of extra hugs afterwards. That continued for at least three months after the surgery. He's fine now but still occasionally asks if random people have brain tumors. He's asked before if he has a brain tumor!

Came across this blog while researching. I too have an oligo II. Diagnosed July 13, 2006 and had surgery on July 27, 2006. I am 30 years old, and have 3 children, ages 6, 4, and 3.

MRI as of July 3rd (also) looked clear and I am just trying to live a normal life :)
Audra writes:
Hi Ericka. If you care to share, please post your story in the converstaions and in the 'brain tumor' topic. I love to hear the experiences of others. How did your children react? "Normal" life is relative, isn't it? I've found I've more afraid of some things now (every little thing my body does that's unusual) and less afraid of others (taking chances, traveling, etc.) How about you?

HI Audra, Just wanted to say hello, I am happy to see your life moving along normaly. On my side of life the doctors are now asking for my husband to have an mri every 6 months instead of yearly, so I am a BIT upset as I feel we are now sliding into the danger zone again. VERY stressful but we must deal with it I supose. Have a good one.pkpecx

Kathy: I have an oligo stage III diagnosed 8/05 and just finished 24 months of Temodar, which will be followed by many months (not sure how long) of Temoxifen in very high doses. So far so good for me. Good luck.
